SUMMARY:BOWDA Lunch: Municipal Candidates Forum on Oct 12\, 2017
DESCRIPTION:Canmore Municipal Candidates Forum\n\n\n\nThere are 2 candidates for Mayor and 14 candidates for the 6 Council seats in the October 16th municipal election. BOWDA\, together with Downtown Canmore Business Association\, Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce\, and Canmore Hotel & Lodging Association\, is hosting a Business Focused Candidates Forum to hear from all of the candidates on their vision for Canmore\, and what they bring to the Council table.\n\n\n\nNote: We have had a number of questions regarding why BOWDA requires registration for the Oct 12th Candidates Forum. To clarify\, the Candidates Forum that BOWDA is hosting is part of our regular luncheon series. We have luncheons every month from Sept through June. These luncheons are intended for our members\, however non-members may choose to attend. Our luncheons are typically the second Thursday of each month\, and the October luncheon falls just prior to the municipal election. Rather than having a speaker for our luncheon\, we chose to host a candidates forum and ask all candidates to attend and briefly share their views. \n\n \n\nFor this luncheon\, we are co-hosting with Downtown Canmore Business Association (BRZ)\, the Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce\, and Canmore Hotel & Lodging Association (CHLA). Our goal was to have 1 forum for members of the 4 main business organizations to attend. Some of these organizations had considered having their own forum\, however out of respect for the candidates' time and for efficiency\, we agreed to collaborate. Since BOWDA is the organization that has held these forums in the past (2012 and 2013 during my tenure as Executive Director\, and numerous municipal forums prior to that)\, we offered to host the event\, and invite the other organizations to co-host\, invite their members\, and participate in asking questions. BRZ\, Chamber and CHLA members will also pay the BOWDA member luncheon rate to attend the luncheon. The candidates do not pay to attend.\n\n \n\nThe seating capacity will be limited to 176 people. We normally attract between 100 to 120 people to our luncheons\, and so with having BRZ\, Chamber and CHLA also inviting their members\, we expect to reach the maximum fairly quickly.\n\n \n\nWe have had requests from BOWDA members and some non-members to be able to watch the forum online. Rocky Mountain Outlook will provide a live feed via Facebook Live\, and will post the video on their website after the event.
